Microsoft: Windows 10 beta for Xbox One is coming "post-summer"

Last week, Microsoft rolled out its latest Windows 10 Mobile preview, build 10080, and its newest preview for PCs, build 10122, arrived only yesterday. In recent months, the company has revealed more and more about its plans for Windows 10 across a range of devices - but there"s one aspect of its new OS that still remains somewhat hazy.

We"ve known for a while now that the Xbox One will support Windows 10 in some capacity, including a level of Universal Apps support, but this isn"t something that Microsoft has yet discussed with any degree of specificity.

But as Microsoft News points out, we now have some idea of the timeframe in which the company will bring its next-gen OS to the Xbox One. The head of Xbox, Phil Spencer was asked on Twitter when an "Xbox One Windows 10 Beta" might become available.

@dave125norco It will be post-summer.

His response: "It will be post-summer." Now that doesn"t exactly fill in all the gaps in our knowledge about what Windows 10 will look like on the console, or what features will (or won"t) be included. Indeed, all it really tells us is what we already suspected: that the company will be focusing primarily on getting the OS ready for its summer launch on PCs, before it then turns its attention to other devices.

But while there"s still plenty we don"t know, the pieces of Microsoft"s Windows 10 vision are slowly starting to come together - and with E3 just around the corner, it"s possible that we"ll find out a little more about what it has in store for the OS on the Xbox One in the next few weeks.
