Microsoft Windows 2000 USB 2.0 Drivers to Reappear Today

Just saw this over at NTCompatible. USB 2.0 drivers for Windows 2000 mysteriously disappeared from both the Microsoft Update Web Site and the Microsoft Corporate Update Web Site two weeks ago.

No explanation was given, the USB 2.0 drivers simply vanished.

Microsoft Update no longer recognized the need for the drivers on systems requiring the update and searching for the drivers in the Windows 2000 Family Corporate download area produced zero results.

An inquiry by USBNews prompted the following timely response:

    Hi Jeff,

Windows Update has been experiencing a few problems for this past week. The USB 2.0 package should be back up tomorrow (Thursday, September 19, 2002) for Windows 2000 (which originally went live on WU in May 02).

This package will load on the following HWIDs.

    NEC PCIVEN_1033&DEV_00E0&REV_01

    NEC PCIVEN_1033&DEV_00E0&REV_02

    ICH4 PCIVEN_8086&DEV_24CD

    VIA PCIVEN_1106&DEV_3104

It may take about 1-2 weeks before it (the drivers) re-appear on the corporate Windows Update (the place where you can search for any drivers).

    Hope this helps.

    Microsoft

Hopefully, what appears to be an updated driver version will be posted sometime today.
