With the Xbox One still launching around the world stock has already started to run low in certain markets. In an interview, Xbox boss Phil Harrison has explained that the number of pre-orders have been “unprecedented”.
Microsoft is launching its new console in 13 markets around the world and it’s also honoring a huge number of pre-orders. According to Harrison the number of people who’ve pre-ordered the console is “unprecedented” in Xbox history. The VP went on to say that this is the biggest launch ever for the Xbox brand and it’s definitely one of the biggest in Microsoft’s history.
Harrison also explained that the company is working “unbelievably hard” to match demand but he also apologized in advance to anyone that won’t be received an Xbox One by Christmas.
In parts of the world where the console has already launched, such as the UK, most retailers are already out of stock. This includes Amazon, that mentions that orders placed after November 13th may not be delivered by Christmas. The Microsoft Store is also facing console shortages with orders placed now being scheduled for delivery for the middle of next month. Even Tesco is out, even though they had some stock for a surprise last minute sale.
Harrison also mentioned that most retailers are expected to receive another important shipment of consoles, close to Christmas, so even if you haven"t picked up a console yet there"s still a chance you"ll be yelling at your TV all throughout the holidays.
All in all Microsoft seems to be doing its best to cope with huge demand and that can only be a positive sign.
