Back in October, Microsoft announced a new portable phone charger - the first to feature its logo, rather than that of Nokia, following its acquisition of that company"s devices business earlier this year.
The Microsoft Portable Power DC-21 is a mobile battery pack that allows users to charge their devices on the move. The unit contains a rechargeable 6000mAh battery, and can connect to most smartphones - not just Lumia devices - via the USB-to-microUSB cable.
Once it"s been fully charged from the mains, Microsoft says that the Portable Power can retain its full charge for months; even six months later, it will retain 80 percent of its power from a single charge.
6000mAh is plenty of juice to recharge your handset - even flagships do not typically feature batteries larger than around 3500mAh, while many lower end devices have batteries in the 1500-2000mAh range. It"s also more power than some of the packs we"ve reviewed in the past.
When Microsoft first announced the Portable Power in October, it said that sales would begin later that month. Needless to say, those plans crashed and burned - but the good news is that the charger is now available to buy in the United States, priced at $49 USD.
