Microsoft has begun spinning its marketing machine this week ahead of the launch of Windows 10 on July 29. The company has raised promotional banners across its Redmond campus, and commenced its ten-day countdown to the launch yesterday, announcing "10 reasons to upgrade".
Microsoft said that it would begin its large-scale marketing campaign for Windows 10 in the US on July 20, and just in the time for those efforts to begin, the company has revealed its first full ad for the new OS.
Called "The Future Starts Now", the ad was announced in a blog post stating that Windows 10 will "welcome a new generation" of users. The ad takes that theme quite literally, focusing on young children stumbling around doing cute things.
"Imagine: these kids won"t have to remember passwords, or obsess about security," the voiceover says, apparently referring to the new password-free Windows Hello biometric security features in Windows 10.
The voiceover continues: "For them, every screen is meant to be touched, and web pages are meant to be scribbled on and shared. They"ll expect their devices to listen to them, and talk and sing, tell a funny joke... and as they grow and get better at things, their technology will too."
Microsoft says that its new ad campaign shows "how technology should be more natural, human and intuitive, and adapt to people"s needs. The key notion - Windows 10 delivers a more human way to do!"
Whether or not buyers agree with these sentiments remains to be seen.
