Despite recently stating that it would be ending Windows Phone support, it turns out Spotify won"t be leaving Microsoft"s mobile OS after all. But Microsoft is losing one of its senior staff to Spotify after almost two decades with the company.
Horacio Gutierrez took on the role of Microsoft"s General Counsel in November, after Brad Smith was promoted to President of the company last September. As The Seattle Times notes, Gutierrez had previously overseen Microsoft"s intellectual property matters, and had promoted efforts within the firm to license its patents to other companies.
He will assume the same role of General Counsel at the music streaming giant, and an announcement regarding who will take over his position at Microsoft is expected closer to his departure in April.
Gutierrez said he was "really excited to join the Spotify team", and Smith paid tribute to his "huge contribution to Microsoft and to our team over more than 17 years", describing him as "a great leader and a great person", adding: "I know he"ll be just as successful as he takes on a new challenge."
