Microsoft's Imagine Cup 2013 kicks off, $300,000 up for grabs

Imagine Cup 2013 is here and now is the time to get your team together. Microsoft has announced that the competition for 2013 has officially kicked off and you can head on over to the official site to see how you can get your team assembled and compete in the premier student competition.

Neowin is a big fan of Imagine Cup and for 2012, we brought you information year-round and covered the competition finals down in Sydney, Australia. This years finals will take place in St. Petersburg, Russia, July 8–11 and you could potentially attend if you compete in this event. 

To make things even better, Microsoft is tossing a few extra coins into the prize bag and is offering up $300,000 to winners of the various competitions. The money from the event is to help the teams take their products from small-scale use, to big picture impact. Below is an excerpt fro Microsoft on Imagine Cup 2013 and what"s new for this year: 

Microsoft has launched registration for Imagine Cup 2013 with a newly expanded student competition to attract a wider base of young innovators to participate in the event. The competition now features three new competitions – World Citizenship, Games and Innovation – with $50,000 of first place prizes in each category, more than doubling the competition prize money. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to participate in Imagine Cup focused learning and development sessions throughout the year as they compete for a slot at Worldwide Finals in St. Petersburg, Russia, on July 8-11, 2013.

Competitions Snapshot:

World Citizenship: Software application developed on Microsoft platforms with the greatest potential to make a positive impact on humanity.

Games: Most engaging and entertaining game targeting teens and youth on Microsoft platforms.

Innovation: Apps that give consumers inspiration and innovation at their fingertips with Microsoft tools and technology.
