Microsoft's Lumia 435 is now available for $28.75 unlocked

It"s been two years - almost to the day - since Microsoft introduced the Lumia 435. The entry-level handset originally went on sale for around $80, but within a few months, it was available to buy for as little as $50.

Now, the Lumia 435 is available for a good deal less, which isn"t entirely surprising, given its age and its specs:

  • 4-inch LCD with WVGA (800x480px) resolution
  • Dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB onboard storage (plus microSD support up to 128GB)
  • 2MP rear camera with fixed focus
  • 0.3MP front-facing camera
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • 1560mAh battery
  • Accelerometer, proximity and ambient light sensors

Walmart is currently offering the handset in black for $28.75 unlocked. While few buyers are likely to choose it as their primary device - it doesn"t even support 4G LTE connectivity - it may prove popular as a backup device, a "first phone" for one of the kids, or perhaps even as a developer handset on which to test apps.

While the Lumia 435 ships with Windows Phone 8.1 onboard, it is eligible for an official upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, including the most recent Anniversary Update.
