When Microsoft launched the Lumia 435 a year ago, it was the company"s most affordable smartphone ever, but as with the rest of its handset range, prices have continued to fall in the months since it went on sale.
The device was available for as little as $29.99 over the holiday season, and while it"s not quite that affordable now, it is still available at a pretty low price. Best Buy is currently offering the Lumia 435 for $39.99 off-contract (albeit locked to T-Mobile). The device is only available in white at that price, and its key specs include:
- 4-inch LCD with WVGA (800x480px) resolution
- Dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor
- 1GB RAM
- 8GB onboard storage (plus microSD support up to 128GB)
- 2MP rear camera with fixed focus
- 0.3MP front-facing camera
- Bluetooth 4.0
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
- 1560mAh battery
- 118.1 x 64.7 x 11.7mm; 134g
The retailer is also offering free shipping, and although the handset ships with Windows Phone 8.1 onboard, Microsoft has confirmed that it will be among the first devices to (eventually) be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile.
The Lumia 435 is a pretty basic device - but it may be a suitable choice for one of the kids, a test device for app development, or perhaps even a first smartphone for an older relative who isn"t too fussed about specs.
But if your budget stretches a bit further, you may want to consider spending a little more for the Lumia 640, which is currently available for $49 off-contract (locked to AT&T). The 640 was one of our favorite devices of last year, and with good reason - it scored very highly in our review.
