Earlier this month a new Microsoft website was uncovered by our favorite company watcher, Walking Cat. The website, called AppSource seemed to be a new digital store where Microsoft’s partners can sell their line-of-business apps and add-ons. The website was quickly pulled when it became public, but it’s now back in full force.
AppSource looks to be a unified store where customers can find and download tools and add-ins for their businesses. The site is designed around different categories, industries and Microsoft products that the apps work with. That being said, AppSource seems to be limited to apps that work with Microsoft"s own products, unlike the company"s Windows Store for Business.
As Microsoft explains, the point of AppSource is to let anyone, in any domain or productive environment to quickly find the tools they need. According to the available filters AppSource features add-ons for Microsoft Dynamics, Power BI, Office 365, Azure and Project Madeira, the company’s new business productivity tool.
The AppSource website is currently live and everything seems to be working, so this might be the official public launch. We’ll learn by the end of the day whether Microsoft intends on quietly pushing AppSource out, or whether the company will have some sort of announcement to go along with the new store.
