Microsoft's next Xbox console reportedly coming in 2020

On Sunday at Microsoft"s E3 briefing, the company confirmed that it"s working on its next-generation Xbox console. The news came as no surprise, as the Xbox One will turn five years old this year, and the device has actually received two iterations since its release, the One S and the One X.

According to a new report from Brad Sams of Thurrott.com, the new console, codenamed Scarlett, will arrive sometime in 2020. The report also says that Scarlett is to be a family of devices, although it doesn"t elaborate on that.

Not much else is known at this time, although it seems likely at this point that E3 2019 will be the time for Microsoft to provide some additional information on the next entry into the Xbox lineup.

It"s also likely that the new console will be backward compatible with existing Xbox One games, and possibly the Xbox and Xbox 360 games that are on the Backward Compatibility list; however, unlike with the Xbox One X, it would have games that are exclusive to it. Microsoft hasn"t been shy about wanting to create a single Xbox experience where you can play all of your games.
