One of Microsoft"s major executives has decided to leave the company, a few months after Microsoft announced its big reorganization. Today, AllThingsD.com reports that, in an internal memo sent to employees, Microsoft stated that Mark Gillett, the corporate vice-president for its Skype division, would be departing after several years at Skype, even before Microsoft bought the VoIP company in 2011.
AllThingsD"s report states that Gillett already has another job position awaiting him when he leaves Microsoft but it"s currently unknown where he will end up. He first joined Skype in 2010 and helped to lead the push to expand the service both before and after Microsoft acquired the company. In 2013, the Lync business messaging division also came under Gillett"s responsibilities.
In August, in an interview that celebrated Skype"s 10th anniversary, Gillett stated that the Skype division was working to bring 3D video chat to the platform, adding, " ... We have it in the lab, we know how to make it work" but that it could be several years before it goes live to the general public. There"s no word yet on who will be taking over for Gillett in the Skype division.
