Microsoft's Surface Laptops with Core i7 in three new colors are still months away

When Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop in early May, it showed it off in four different colors: Platinum, Burgundy, Graphite Gold, and Cobalt Blue. But when pre-orders went live later that day, it turned out that aside from Platinum, all colors were only available on the model with a Core i5, 8GB RAM, and 256GB of storage.

Earlier this week, the firm added variants of the Core i7, 16GB RAM, and 512GB storage model to its product listing that come in the latter three colors, listed as "coming soon". If you were hoping that "soon" meant next week, or even next month, you"re likely to be disappointed.

We reached out to Microsoft to see if there was a specific release date for the new variants, and were told by a Microsoft spokesperson, "We will announce additional color availability in the coming months." Obviously, this means that the new devices aren"t days or weeks out, but months away.

The new models will likely be priced at $2,199 - as that"s how much the Platinum version costs - and there"s no sign yet of them being available outside of the US. It"s worth noting, however, that the colored models (the Core i5 ones) were US-only during the pre-order period, and then ended up being available in other regions, so there"s no reason to lose hope just yet.
