At last year"s Ignite conference, Microsoft announced a new Office app for mobile devices that includes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint features, in addition to some other features like document scanning, file sharing, and more. The app entered public preview at the time, and starting today, it"s hitting general availability on both Android and iOS.
The announcement should be especially good news for iOS users, since the preview of the app quickly reached the 10,000 download limit imposed by Apple"s TestFlight program. The app will also include some features that weren"t available when the preview initially launched, like dark mode in iOS and templates for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files.
In addition to announcing the general availability of the app, Microsoft has also announced three new features that are coming later this spring. The first is dictation in Word, so you can use your voice to write up documents. The second is a Cards view for Excel, which is supposed to make it easier to see the data on a spreadsheet without requiring as much horizontal scrolling through columns. Finally, there"s Outline in PowerPoint, which lets users create a presentation by feeding PowerPoint the content as a general outline and then having the app transform the data into a proper presentation with adequate styling, formatting, and iconography.
If you"re interested in downloading the app now that it"s generally available, you can do so from here.
