Microsoft's upcoming Surface tablet may reportedly launch this week

Microsoft"s rumored $400 Surface tablet reportedly passed the FCC almost a week ago. Codenamed "Libra", the Surface device will potentially be released with different processor variants, with the higher-end one expected to pack a Pentium 4415Y. The upcoming tablet has also seemingly shown up in a leaked OpenCL benchmark, possibly confirming some of the already rumored specifications for the device.

Now, a picture of a supposedly official document leaked by a Reddit user indicates that the device might possibly be launched this week, along with a new Type Cover.

The leaked information was posted yesterday in a subreddit dedicated to Surface devices, and it cites the date "7/13" for the unveiling of the upcoming products on the Store. This means that the Surface tablet will possibly be available for purchase by this Friday.

With reports of the tech giant working on a less powerful device, and an apparent delay in the launching of Microsoft"s highly popular - albeit unconfirmed - Surface Andromeda device, it seems quite likely that the tablet is officially announced soon. The supposed date of release does coincide with previous reports that the relatively cheaper Surface device is targeting the student market; it makes sense to launch the tablet before the back-to-school season begins in September.

Even though the supposedly received FCC certification is the last step before the official launch of a product, it should be noted that this latest leaked document does not specifically mention a new tablet so, as always, this rumor should be taken with a pinch of salt.
