The huge success of the indie sandbox PC game Minecraft could be moving to a new dimension. In his latest blog post, Minecraft"s main creator Markus "Notch" Perrson announced that he is thinking about holding a MinecraftCon in Las Vegas on November 11. That also happens to be the same date that the game will be "officially" released after being previously sold in alpha and beta versions.
The convention, if it happens, will be attended by "Notch" and the rest of of the team members from Mojang, the studio formed to help support and expand Minecraft after sales started to explode in 2010. "Notch" states that one of the events will be "us pushing out the final release live on stage or something." Look for Q&A sessions, contests, parties and other events at the proposed convention. Right now "Notch" is saying that tickets to attend MinecraftCon will "probably cost about 90 dollars per person". That would exclude hotel and travel fees although he adds, "it’s possible we might be able to set up bulk deals with some hotel."
There"s currently a poll on the blog page that asks people if they would be willing to pay $90 for a MinecraftCon ticket. At the moment it doesn"t look good for that price as over 45 percent of the responses so far said they would "definitely not" attend the convention at that price.
Meanwhile the game itself continues to sell over 7,000 copies a day on the Minecraft web site. At the moment the game has sold a total of 2.17 million copies since first releasing in its alpha state back in 2009.
