Minecraft is about to reach its 1.0 status for the PC version but owners of the iPhone and iPad will soon be able to see what all the fuss is about for this sandbox adventure game. According to Develop, the game will be made available via Apple"s App Store on Thursday. The asking price is $10 which is pretty high for an iOS-based game.
An Android version of Minecraft was first released a few months ago as a timed exclusive for the Sony Xperia Play smartphone but was later expanded to every Android phone. The nice thing about the iOS version is there will be cross-platform multiplayer with the Android version.
Meanwhile, MineCon is about to take place in Las Vegas and Minecraft"s creator Marcus "Notch" Persson will launch the 1.0 version of the PC port, which has now sold over 4 million copies (we know ... incredible) on Friday, the first day of the two day MineCon event. The show will also feature the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft for the first time in public; that port of the game is scheduled for release sometime in 2012.
It will be interesting to see how Minecraft goes over with the iPhone and iPad audience. Even though it has a fairly high price for an iOS game, we suspect that it will still sell a ton of copies.
Update: The Minecraft port for iOS has been released and thankfully is priced at a more reasonable $6.99.
