Minecraft for Xbox One due in August for $19.99, $4.99 for Minecraft Xbox 360 owners

The Xbox 360 version of Minecraft has been a huge hit, selling 12 million combined digital and disc copies since it was first released in 2012. Today, Microsoft has announced that the upcoming Xbox One version of the sandbox game, which was first announced at E3 2013, will finally be released sometime in August for the price of $19.99.

The Xbox Wire website also reveals that owners of the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft will be able to import their saved game data to the Xbox One edition, which means that they won"t have to start over when they get the game for Microsoft"s newest console. Most of the game"s downloadable textures and skins can also be moved from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One port.

Furthermore, current Xbox 360 Minecraft owners will be able to purchase the Xbox One edition for just $4.99. That upgrade price will remain for a year after the Xbox One version is released. Minecraft: Xbox One Edition is supposed to offer larger worlds to explore and build inside compared to the Xbox 360 edition. It"s a safe bet that the game will be as huge of a sales hit for the Xbox One as it has been for the Xbox 360 port.
