Minecraft has a buy one-get one free weekend

Love is in the air this weekend, especially if you have wanted to buy a copy of Minecraft but have yet to do so. The hit sandbox PC game has sold over 3 million copies (it reached the 3 million level earlier this month) and now the game"s creator Markus "Notch" Persson is giving an extra incentive for folks who have yet to try the game. As he announced on his official blog site, "I’m getting married to ez tomorrow, and I thought we’d celebrate by giving one free copy of Minecraft to everyone who buys the game."

Yep that means if you put down your money to buy the beta version of Minecraft you get a gift code for a free copy of the game that you can give out to a buddy. Keep in mind that the free gift code offer is only for people who pay money for a copy of the game; putting in a gift code won"t get you a second gift code. People who do receive a free gift code can redeem it at the official Minecraft web site.

We assume that "Notch" will be taking a few days off after his wedding but he and his development team at Mojang still have to finish up the long promised "Adventure" update for Minecraft (otherwise known as the 1.8 update). There"s no word yet on when this major update will be released. Minecraft will then officially come out of beta in mid-November which just happens to be the time that Minecon, the official Minecraft convention, will be held in Las Vegas. Tickets for the event went on sale earlier this week.
