Minecraft has just achieved an incredible feat registering over 122 million copies sold across all its editions, up from 100 million in June 2016.
The Microsoft title has been a popular game with players worldwide ever since it launched back in 2011, becoming the most popular game for Xbox back in 2012. The game is playable across multiple platforms including PC, Mac, Android, Apple TV, iOS, and Windows 10. Last month, the block-building game had reached another milestone by selling over 25 million copies for PC and Mac alone. Another version of the game, Minecraft: Education Edition, had a gamer base of 75,000 players across 100 countries after its launch in November last year.
According to the game"s official twitter account:
It added that the game witnessed 55 million monthly players, up from 40 million in July last year. Microsoft, who now owns Mojang, is pivoting the game"s purpose and presenting it as a viable educational tool even organizing Minecraft"s coding tutorials during the Computer Science Education Week a few months ago. The company even prohibited brand promotion on the game to curb other companies showing off "unrelated products" that were inundating it.
