It has been over two years since Mojang and Microsoft announced the Super Duper Graphics Pack for Minecraft, a planned DLC that would have overhauled the game"s quaint looks. Today in a blog post, Mojang announced it has ceased development of the Super Duper pack, saying it was too technically demanding.
The studio explained it was not happy with the graphics pack"s performance, which was heading to the Xbox One family of devices and Windows 10 PCs via the Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
"We realise this is disappointing to some of you – there was a lot of enthusiasm for Super Duper from inside and outside the studio – but unfortunately, we aren’t happy with how the pack performed across devices," said Mojang in today"s announcement. "For this reason, we"re stopping development on the pack, and looking into other ways for you to experience Minecraft with a new look."
Although this project has not fared well, Mojang may be working on some other ways to enhance Minecraft, judging by the last statement. It also said that it"s "constantly trying to make the most of the technical architecture" of the platforms Minecraft is available on, and added that it will be "able to share more on that subject very soon."
It seems Minecraft fans who were looking forward to the Super Duper Pack will have to consider a community-developed shader pack instead.
