Following the release of the trailer for Modern Warfare 3, the latest title in the Call of Duty franchise, an official has now confirmed queries of what framerate Infinity Ward is aiming for. Robert Bowling, Creative Strategist for the developer, answered the question earlier today from his Twitter account.
In response to a question on whether the latest installment will run at 60 frames per second, Bowling responded:
Absolutely, locked at 60 Frames Per Second. That is a core design principle for us and especially for #MW3.
Modern Warfare 3 will be the first game in the series developed by Infinity Ward following the dispute between the company"s founders and Activision. Sledgehammer Games has since been called in to fill the gap left by the co-founder"s dismissal, and it appears the newly-formed relationship has kept the show running smoothly. Since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the series has seen a new release every year, and development is looking like it"ll be able to maintain this momentum for at least another year.
Bowling has been quick to clarify that the goal of 60 frames per second is unrelated to any decisions on dedicated multiplayer servers, as one tweeter speculated. The framerate lock is also not a maximum limit, as the wording may suggest. Rather, the game will run at 60 frames per second at a minimum, allowing the game to move past that at any point. PC users will especially take advantage of this feature, where beefier hardware will allow for faster speeds.
