Microsoft recently acquired Mojang, the game development studio behind the creation of Minecraft, for a staggering $2.5 billion. This led to the game being released on Windows Phone a little over a week ago. There has been much speculation regarding what Microsoft intends to do next, given that they literally own Minecraft - and that got some people thinking that Minecraft movie might be in the works.
However, Mojang is now about to accomplish what most believed to be impossible. They are developing a narrative-driven game series in collaboration with Telltale Games, the studio behind the creation of The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us and the recently released episodes of Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones. The game is named Minecraft: Story Mode and here"s what Telltale Games has to say about it:
Minecraft: Story Mode will be an all-new narrative-driven game series developed by Telltale in collaboration with Mojang. Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice. It will not be an add-on for Minecraft, but rather a separate stand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices.
Telltale"s game series will mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience, inspired by the Minecraft community and the game that continues to inspire a generation.

2014 is Telltale"s tenth anniversary year; seeing in the climactic finales of the critically acclaimed and best-selling The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead: Season Two. With the recent premieres of both Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands, our 2015 lineup will include the remainder of both of those new series, and now it will also include the premiere of Minecraft: Story Mode.
However impossible it may seem to create a "narrative-driven" game on Minecraft, considering Telltale"s history in the genre, we wouldn"t be too surprised if the game turns out to be a block-buster.
The game is slated for a 2015 release along with the other episodes of Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones and will be available on "consoles, computers and mobile devices". Playstation"s official Twitter account has already confirmed that the game will be released on the console as well.
