Months late, Android Wear 2.0 is finally expected to launch on February 9

Back in September, Google unexpectedly announced that it had "decided to continue the preview program into early 2017" for its Android Wear 2.0 update. The second major update to its wearable device platform was originally intended for general release in 2016.

Following a series of Developer Preview releases last year, Google began emailing its dev community last week, signaling availability of Android Wear 2.0 in early February. Today, serial leakster Evan Blass, better known as @evleaks, said that its final release date has been scheduled for February 9.

Some existing Android Wear devices - such as the original Moto 360 - will not be upgraded to the new version of the OS. The following devices are expected to be upgraded to 2.0:

  • Moto 360 Gen 2
  • Moto 360 Sport
  • LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE
  • LG Watch Urbane
  • LG G Watch R
  • Polar M600
  • Casio Smart Outdoor Watch
  • Nixon Mission
  • Tag Heuer Connected
  • Fossil Q Wander
  • Fossil Q Marshal
  • Fossil Q Founder
  • Michael Kors Access Bradshaw Smartwatch
  • Michael Kors Access Dylan Smartwatch
  • Huawei Watch
  • Huawei Watch Ladies
  • Asus ZenWatch 2
  • Asus ZenWatch 3

Some companies, such as Casio, have already announced new products running Android Wear 2.0. Google is also planning to unveil two new wearable devices with its latest OS in the coming weeks.
