If exploding Sony batteries in your notebook isn"t a concern to you, then perhaps an overheating PlayStation 3 will be. A recently released report from Macquarie Equities analyst David Gibson in Tokyo said that PlayStation 3 units on display at the Tokyo Game Show about 10 days ago operated erratically and had to be repeatedly reset.
Sony"s PR department replied that this was not a result in a problem with the PlayStation 3 itself but rather a problem with the unique temperature conditions present in the Sony booth of the trade show. According to Sony spokeswoman Nanako Kato, "For a normal player at home, there shouldn"t be any problem."
Needless to say, reports of design problems this late in development was not good news for Sony. In fact, PlayStation 3 units are due to ship in Japan and North America in little more than a month from now. Upon hearing the news, investment firm Goldman Sachs Group Inc. lowered Sony"s stock rating to "neutral" from "buy" and the stock lost 2.75 per cent on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
