Microsoft’s latest generation of Windows phones only includes four devices: the Lumia 950 and 950XL and the more affordable Lumia 650 and Lumia 550. But at one point this device family was supposed to be somewhat bigger, and include a couple of mid-range models. The Lumia 850 was supposed to be one such device, but Microsoft killed it while still in development. Now, new images have surfaced showing the canceled handset in all its glory.
The Lumia 850, also known by its "Honjo" codename, was originally leaked about a year ago by notorious leaker Evan Blass. Since then, the device has sporadically showed up in a number of leaks and renders online, but Microsoft canceled the handset, so it never got to see the light of day officially.

But now some Italian fans have managed to get their hands on what seems to be a working prototype of the device, posting images online. As you can see the handset doesn’t look at all bad, albeit it is quite bland by Nokia design standards. It also looks very similar to the design found on the Lumia 650. Also worth pointing out is that the device is running a very old build of Windows 10 Mobile - look at those great icons! You can also tell the age of the build thanks to the presence of Project Spartan, the codename for the Edge browser, and the absence of Groove Music.
However, before you start going down the “what if...” path, note that this device only sports a Snapdragon 210 processor and comes with a 720p screen. In other words, there’s nothing here to entice the few remaining loyal Windows mobile users.
