Motorola sees a wireless microphone tattooed to your neck as the future

Motorola Mobility has filed a patent application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a wireless microphone that would be embedded onto your neck through a tattoo. Yes, you read that correctly. If this concept ever made it to market, buyers would tattoo wireless microphones to their necks.

The patent application reads:

The electronic skin tattoo can include an embedded microphone; a transceiver for enabling wireless communication with the MCD (mobile communication device); and a power supply configured to receive energizing signals from a personal area network associated with the MCD. A controller is communicatively coupled to the power supply.

The tattooed microphone would wirelessly pair with a smartphone or other device for communication. According to the application, having this microphone embedded onto your skin offers an "improved signal-to-noise ratio." It seems like that"s really the only benefit compared to just holding a microphone.

Motorola is obviously interested enough in the idea to apply for a patent on it, so maybe the company actually sees this as what the future could be for humanity. Will we all someday have microphones tattooed onto our necks for communication or other purposes?

I"m reminded of a man who appeared on the first season of ABC"s Shark Tank to present an idea to the investors that would surgically install a Bluetooth device inside someone"s head and would be rechargeable through the ear. He did not receive an investment.
