If you’ve been using Firefox for a while you’ll probably know about its Test Pilot programme where it tries out new features and sometimes they graduate and become built-in features of the browser; features that have graduated include Screenshots and the Activity Stream. Today, Mozilla has announced two new experiments for Test Pilot: Custom Color and Side View.
Custom Color takes Firefox customisation to a whole new level; while in the past you could move aspects of the browser around and pick themes it was more difficult to pick custom colour themes, now with Custom Color you can choose everything from background textures, the colour of text, icons, the toolbar and URL bar highlights. There are a bunch of preset themes to get you started too. Once you’ve made a theme you can save and share the theme with others.
The other experiment is called Side View. This feature tries to make comparing items easier. Side View allows you to view two different browser tabs in the same tab eliminating the need to switch between different web pages. Mozilla says you could use this feature for comparing news stories, writing a research paper, or looking out for the best deals online.
To get started with Test Pilot, just head on over to the project website and enable Custom Color and Side View.
