MSN Messenger gets nixed for iOS, Skype says 'hello'

While this will not be a shock for many, MSN Messenger is no longer available for iOS users. The move was imminent, seeing as Microsoft is looking to kill off its antiquated messaging platform in favor of Skype.

Microsoft has chosen to use Skype has its preferred platform for communication and has made it possible for users to merge their Skype and MSN contact lists into a single product. While Skype does have its shortcomings and is far from perfect, we hope that with Microsoft pulling the plug on the MSN messaging platform it will be able to dedicate resources to Skype to fix the outstanding issues.

This move is another step in Microsoft’s efforts to put an end to MSN Messenger, and we expect to see the company remove all instances of the platform from the web in the near future.

If you use MSN Messenger on iOS, we recommend downloading the Skype app and logging in with the appropriate credentials to avoid any potential interruption down the road.
