Need For Speed: Most Wanted PC gets DirectX 11 support

Developer Criterion and publisher Electronic Arts both return to the Need for Speed racing game franchise this fall with Need For Speed: Most Wanted. The title will be coming to the PC as well as console platforms and it will be getting some nice graphical extras.

In a new interview at Gameson.net, Criterion"s Leanne Loombe confirms that the PC port will support DirectX 11 graphics, adding, "We’re primarily leveraging the increased efficiency of DX11 to give improved performance. The move to DX11 from DX9 has given us around a 300% improvement in rendering performance. This has enabled us to provide an improved image based lighting model over the console version, as well as allowing us to run with higher detail shadows and reflections."

Other graphical features in the PC version of Most Wanted include "SSAO, light scattering, high dynamic range motion blur, high resolution textures, advanced specular lighting models, headlight shadow casting, enhanced VFX quality, and enhanced shadow quality levels." The PC version will also support up to 12 players in online races, versus just eight online players for the console versions. Unfortunately, there will be no support for offline LAN racing.

While EA has yet to reveal specific PC system requirements, Loombe does say, "A modern quad core PC with an AMD Radeon 6000 series or NVIDIA Geforce 500 ..." will be needed to have the game running at its highest graphical settings. Need For Speed: Most Wanted is due to launch on October 30th.
