NeoBytes :) is an occasional feature that takes a step back from the big headlines, to take a look at what else is happening in the vast, scary expanse of the tech world - often with a cynical eye, always with a dose of humour.
In the United States, it"s only a few hours away until September 19th, which will mark when the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will officially go on sale. However, for some in different time zones, the iPhone 6 is already available. While most might retreat back to the privacy of their homes to unbox their new purchase, some will opt for the glory of being on broadcast television by unboxing it live on air.
In Perth, Australia, this was the case for one young man who decided to share his new purchase with the local media. Sadly, things didn"t go so well, as he was clearly nervous and rushing under pressure. In the blink of an eye and amongst a shower of "ohhhhh"s", the brand new iPhone 6 had met the pavement.
Although it must have been devastating to experience, the young man quickly picked up the device while being showered with camera flashes, gave it a quick dusting and with a smile, exclaimed "it"s all good." For this young man, his normal ten seconds of fame will now be a bit longer, thanks to a nervous blunder. Who knows, maybe Apple will pull a Google and offer an exception replacement under warranty sometime in the future. But, I wouldn"t hold my breath.
