Netflix adds HDR support for three more Android phones

High Dynamic Range (HDR) content has grown to be pretty popular over the last couple of years as the capability has been added to gaming hardware as well as smartphones and computers.

Being a video streaming service, it was only natural for Netflix to provide the option to stream HDR content on supported devices as they appeared. Today, the company continues to do so by adding three new Android phones to the list of supported devices, which include the Huawei P20, the Mate 10 Pro, and Sony"s Xperia XZ2.

The company doesn"t specifically mention the Huawei P20 Pro, so it"s unclear if both variants are supported, or if only the base P20 has been added to the list. Likewise, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is also absent from the support article.

The new devices join the likes of Samsung"s Galaxy S9 and the iPhone X, and make up a total of 15 phones supporting HDR content on Netflix, be it through the HDR10 or Dolby Vision standards. The Xbox One S, Xbox One X, and other Windows 10 devices also support HDR video through the Netflix UWP app or the Edge browser.

As usual, however, HDR content requires a Premium subscription, which will cost users $13.99 per month and also includes 4K video streaming.

Netflix isn"t the only video platform providing HDR content - YouTube added support for the technology late last year as well.
