Netflix adds Smart Downloads feature to its iOS app

In late 2016, Netflix introduced a feature to its mobile app for iOS and Android that allows you to download shows for offline viewing. However, the downside to it is that downloaded content will take its toll on device storage as it increases in volume, unless you manually delete the videos.

To address the inconvenience, the streaming service announced smart downloads in July of last year, enabling the app to automatically download the next episode and delete previously downloaded shows that you"ve watched already. The capability was available only on Android devices at the time, though, but it"s now live on iOS as well.

Netflix has announced the update today, providing an automatic download capability to both iPhone and iPad users. To turn on the feature, tap the download icon in the downloads section and select smart downloads from the top of the menu.

Alternatively, you can head over to the app settings under the settings menu and turn on the option under the downloads heading. Of course, there"s still an option to disable this feature if you"d like to retain your downloads to watch previous episodes again.
