With a growing selection of high quality content, including House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, Netflix streaming is still growing in popularity and also becoming more profitable. Impressive, considering the fierce competition that comes from services like Hulu, HBO making a deal with Amazon, and bad luck with stocks plummeting back in October due to dipping subscriber figures.
The company is also working hard to expand, even to hostile markets with fearful incumbents in Australia and New Zealand. The biggest efforts, however, are about bringing more content to the platform. Having previously announced three originally produced TV shows, Netflix is now ramping up that number to eight. The additional shows are:
The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt - a comedy originally developed by NBC, starring Ellie Kemper in the role of a woman that is looking to start over her life, after being part of a doomsday cult for 15 years.
Daredevil - a series co-produced with Marvel, starring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, a lawyer-by-day that uses his sharp senses to fight crime at night on the streets of New York City"s Hell"s Kitchen.
Sense8 - a sci-fi show centered on a group of people with the ability to be mentally and emotionally connected, that must survive a world of people that live in fear of their powers.
A.K.A. Jessica Jones - another superhero series, this time about a woman who wants to rebuild her life by opening her own detective agency, in order to deal with cases of other people in New York with exceptional abilities.
Grace and Frankie - a comedy that follows the story of two long time rivals , who experience a shock when they find out their husbands are about to run off because they are in love with each other.
Thus far, Netflix has a strong track of success on the streaming platform, and it will be interesting to see the production value and people"s reactions to these shows.
