Netflix normally grants teachers permission for educational screenings of its documentaries, which they can stream in their classrooms. With schools closed due to the coronavirus crisis, the streaming giant has uploaded a selection of popular documentaries to the Netflix US YouTube channel. It states that this has been done upon requests from teachers who want to ensure that the students" learning process continues despite the pandemic.
For the benefit of both students and teachers, the Los Gatos, California-based company has made educational resources available alongside each title. It will also be organizing Q/A sessions with creators behind some of these projects so that students "can hear from them firsthand." The ten documentaries available free of cost are listed below:
- 13th
- Abstract
- Babies
- Chasing Coral
- Explained
- Knock Down the House
- Our Planet
- Period. End of a Sentence
- The White Helmets
- Zion
Although the documentaries are currently available in English only, Netflix has assured that subtitles in more than a dozen languages will be available later this week. The firm rolled out new parental control features last week, including an age filter and password-protected profiles.
