While Netflix has had a Android app for its streaming video and TV show business for the past few months, the app was made only for Android 2.2 or 2.3 devices. There was no way that owners of Android-based tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab or the Motorola Xoom could run the Netflix app since it didn"t support the tablet-only Android 3.0 operating system. That"s thankfully not the case anymore as Netflix has just announced a new update to its Android app.
On its official blog, Netflix confirmed that its app is now available to be used on Android 3.0 devices, otherwise known as Honeycomb. That means that owners of the larger screen tablets will now be able to access the thousands of movie and TV shows that have only been available to users of the smaller Android smartphones. In addition, Netflix has announced that people in Canada and Latin America will now be able to download and access the Android Netflix app for the first time, expanding the audience for the company even further.
The company recently announced that it would release its financial numbers for the third quarter of 2011 on Monday, October 24. Many people will be watching to see if Netflix has lost any more subscribers for its streaming and DVD rental mail order service. Netflix has admitted that the company lost one million subscribers after it announced large 60 percent price hikes for customers who used both of its services.
