It would appear that the rumors of the Netflix apps" demise on Windows have been greatly exaggerated. Earlier today, there were reports that the app had disappeared from the Windows Store.
In all of our tests over the last few hours - across Windows Phone 7, 8, 8.1, Windows 10, Windows 10 Mobile, and Insider Fast ring builds - we were able to download the app. It would appear that while Netflix doesn"t appear in search results on Windows 10 Mobile, you can get to the listing from the suggested searches.
The results were a bit different on Mobile build 14388, as it didn"t even appear in the suggested searches. Luckily, Netflix was featured right on the Store"s home page under "Top free apps". Of course, if you"ve downloaded it before, you can also get it through the My Library section of the Store.
Of course, we also reached out to Netflix for comment, which offered the following statement:
Thanks for flagging this. We just looked into it and it appears to be available across all Windows platforms. There are no plans to remove it.
We"ll continue to investigate this with Microsoft.
Had Netflix pulled its Windows apps, that would have been a genuine shock to the Windows community. The company was among the first big names to embrace Microsoft"s Universal Windows Platform (even if it"s still only for PCs). In fact, there are Netflix apps available on every Windows platform with an app store, going all the way back to Windows Phone 7.
