Picking what to watch on Netflix is sometimes a challenging experience, especially if you are not quite sure what you might be in the mood to watch. Today, Netflix has announced a new feature called Max that tries to turn the experience of finding a video into a game ... sort of.
In a post on the Netflix blog, it talks more about Max, which will be introduced first on the PlayStation 3 Netflix app, and expanded into other platforms in the future. When Max is enabled on the PS3 app, it asks the users some questions about the kind of movie or TV show they want to watch.
The human voice behind the Max feature then could offer up one of several different scenarios in order to arrive at a video suggestion, such as rating a few movies or TV shows, picking a movie starring a specific actor or picking a highly specific movie theme. It could even offer a "Mystery Box" that gives the person the option to simply play whatever Max gives with no previous hint beforehand.
As you can see in the above video, the Max feature for the Netflix PS3 app is designed to be sort of like a quiz show. In fact, the feature was developed in part by the team responsible for the You Don"t Know Jack PC and console quiz games. The feature will be pushed out to PS3 users in the US in the coming weeks and will likely show up next for the iPad app.
