Microsoft has launched a new Bing Wallpaper app for the desktop that lets users set the daily Bing image as their desktop wallpapers. The app lets users cycle through the daily wallpapers through the system tray. The daily Bing images will automatically be set as the desktop wallpaper.
General Manager for Bing Growth and Distribution at Microsoft, Michael Schechter, said in a tweet (spotted by WindowsCentral) that this is an “official supported way to set the Bing homepage image as your desktop wallpaper”. Interestingly, the Bing Desktop app has let users set the Bing daily image as the desktop wallpaper. However, that app also brought with it many other features such as the ability to search on Bing from the desktop and set news feeds.
The new Bing Wallpaper app is interestingly not offered through the Microsoft Store. Instead, users can head here to download the setup. Once installed, the initial setup offers users an option to set Bing as their default homepage and search engine. Though the checkboxes look greyed out, they can be deselected to choose against setting Bing as your homepage or default search engine.
Though minor, the app is a nifty way to set the Bing daily images as your desktop wallpaper for those that like those images. Schechter says that this feature has been requested “for years”.
