When Crackdown 3 was announced back in 2014, gamers were promised an epic third installment of the series that started back on the original Xbox. Microsoft showed off fully destructible worlds along with its new "cloud" technology that made it all possible. Since then, updates on the progress of the game"s development have been sparse.
At this year"s E3, the company finally announced a firm release date alongside the Xbox One X. However, several gamers and critics expressed disdain over the lack of footage Microsoft showed, instead opting for a sort of live action/campaign trailer that was a minute or so in length. Thanks to a YouTuber called "theRadBrad", we finally have in-game footage, albeit not confirmed.
The gameplay shown off harks back to the original games, with a Borderlands style cell-shading effect. Moreover, it shows the gunplay and traversal mechanics that would make you instantly think of Sunset Overdrive, another game that required you to use the environment as a weapon and move rapidly from one point to another. On top of that, there is an announcer that gives commentary every time you do something epic and the game seems to be an open world from the footage shown.
Beyond that, the orb system is shown off as well, and the power-ups that go with them that reminds one of Phantom Dust, a game that recently got re-released on Xbox One. Although no destruction was shown, Microsoft did note at the game"s reveal that this will only be limited to the multiplayer portion since it requires a constant connection to the internet. However, the environment did show some signs of damage, mostly cracks in the pavement and such.
Crackdown 3 revolves around an elite team of super soldiers taking down crime syndicates inside the city. Each gang is connected, and you have to use the environment and your abilities to slowly dismantle the intricate web of strongholds.
Crackdown 3 will launch on November 7 and will release on both the Xbox One and Windows 10. Microsoft also promised to show off more gameplay and share more information surrounding games at this year"s Gamescom.
