A couple of weeks ago it was reported that the two co-founders of YouTube, Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, were planning to revive the dormant but once popular Delicious link-sharing portal. That prediction has now come true. The new Delicious site has now gone live under the gaze of Hurley and Chen"s new company Avos. In a post on the Avos web site, the duo explain what"s new on the revamped Delicious site.
Hurley and Chen"s idea is to try to create a filter that will better organize the wave of new content that the Internet generates every day (web sites, video, social networking, etc). Delicious"s new solution is called "stacks". As the web site states, "Select some related links, plug them into a stack and watch the magic happen. You can customize your stack by choosing images to feature, and by adding a title, description and comment for each link. Then publish the stack to share it with the world. If you come across another stack you like, follow it to easily find it again and catch any updates." The goal is to give people a new way to find new content that interests them. Hurley and Chen says, "Each new stack presents an opportunity to introduce the rest of the world to cool web content they haven’t seen before."
For people who have used Delicious before this week"s revamp, all of the private bookmarks created by those users are still there. Delicious has also renamed "bookmarks" as "links", although the site says "they mean the same thing." The overall site navigation has been improved and "many redundant features have been consolidated". Tags can now include multiple words and profile pictures are now included with the promise of more social networking-like features coming in the future.
