Today, Microsoft is releasing an update for its Chromium-based Edge browser in the Dev channel, bringing it to version 77, since it will be based on Chromium 77. The update doesn"t appear to be live yet, but it"s already showing on the "What"s New" section of the Edge Insider page. Also, the "Go To Forum" link doesn"t take you to an actual article about what"s new yet.
Obviously, bringing it to Chromium 77 is a major update, the first big one since version 76 was introduced in the Dev channel in early May. This is something that should happen every six weeks or so, although when Edge Dev first started out, it was on version 74.
The six-week update cycle will become more apparent when Microsoft launches the beta channel, which has been listed as coming soon since the Chromium-based Edge browser was launched in early April. Right now, it"s just Dev and Canary, which are updated weekly and daily, respectively. In fact, while the Edge Dev 77 update isn"t live yet, you can test out Edge Canary 77 right now.
Along with Chromium 77, Microsoft says that this update has a range of fixes and improvements. We"ll keep you updated when the full list is published. To download Edge Insider builds, you can find them here.
