The highly anticipated RPG Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord received some exclusive new gameplay footage at the E3 PC Gaming Show, showcasing a rather large battle with the player on horseback wielding a bow and arrow, a spear, as well as plenty of infantry action.
The developer, TaleWorlds Entertainment, has also released two extended videos of the clip seen at the PC Gaming Show for fans, and went on to post a blog with more information regarding the game.
Some key battle improvements included in the new game are advanced battle formations, allowing players to split up and merge their forces in battle into various formations and give orders. These orders range from commanding infantry to form a shield wall to lightning cavalry charges.
AI is another factor that is seeing improvements, with AI commander behaviors being drawn from well-known historical tacticians such as Alexander the Great. AI Commanders can also designate control of units to Lords and even to the player, letting them make use of a small force to carry out important tasks in the battlefield.
In addition, new combat updates included in the game features improved directional shield blocking seen in the previous titles, as well as the highly requested addition of shield bashing. Other improvements include attack chaining and updates to the animations and the game"s combat engine, with more details available on the developer"s new blog post.
The developer is still keeping Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord"s release date under wraps, but these improvements and gameplay videos are sure to satisfy fans for some time.
