A few weeks ago, at the Mobile World Congress industry expo, HMD Global unveiled a new version of the classic Nokia 3310 handset, along with the affordable Nokia 3 and mid-range Nokia 5 Android smartphones. HMD didn"t announce an exact launch date, saying only that the new handsets would be available in the second quarter of this year, in addition to the international launch of the Nokia 6, which it released in China in January.
Now, VTECH"s Victor Ng has revealed a few details about the planned release of the new devices. It"s worth pointing out that Victor has a pretty solid track record when it comes to breaking news; for example, he accurately reported last year that Microsoft was planning to sell off the feature phone business it acquired from Nokia, several days before the official announcement came.
Citing unnamed sources, he now reports that the Nokia 3310 will launch in Malaysia at the end of April, while the launch of the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 there will be staggered throughout May. The 3 is expected to go on sale first at the beginning of the month, the 5 in mid-May, and the 6 towards the end of the month.
A few weeks ago, HMD said that it "has ambitious plans to release [the] Nokia 3, 5 and 6 in 120 markets at [the] same time in Q2 2017". So assuming Victor"s sources are correct, you can expect all three of those devices - as well as the 3310 - to launch in other markets around the world within the same timeframe. This roughly lines up with details revealed by a UK retailer last month, which said that it was expecting all four devices to be available in the UK by May.
