Ahead of every major software or hardware release Nvidia pushes out a graphics driver update to make sure its users are running on the most optimized platform. The company recently did this with the release of the super-popular Overwatch game, and it’s doing it once again today, this time adding driver support for its new GTX 1070 card.
Nvidia often refreshes and optimizes its drivers and SLI profiles days before a major new game gets released. And this driver release, with version number 368.39 is by no means an exception, with the company providing updated SLI profiles for games like Mirror’s Edge Catalyst and Total War: Warhammer.
But perhaps much more importantly, with this new driver release Nvidia has added support for its upcoming GTX 1070 GPU, launching at the end of this week. The new GTX 1070 is deemed to be a mid-range heavy hitter, offering performance comparable to the previous GTX Titan flagship, at less than half the price. With that kind of a performance boost, gamers will no doubt flock to this new generation of cards so having good driver support right out of the gate is crucial for Nvidia.
Finally, these latest drivers add support for VRWorks on the new 1080 and 1070 GTX cards, including Lens Matched Shading and Single Pass Stereo.
