New Samsung Galaxy S20 firmware update improves camera autofocus performance

Samsung has started rolling out another new software update for the Galaxy S20 series which seemingly helps improve the camera performance and fix the autofocus issues plaguing the devices. Samsung"s change-log for the 300MB+ update is short on details, but it does bump the camera app version to 10.0.01.98 which points to some major underlying changes.

Samsung acknowledged some of the camera issues plaguing the Galaxy S20 Ultra even before its launch and promised to look into resolving them with software updates. This is now the second software update that Samsung has rolled out for its 2020 flagship lineup within weeks of its release.

Some Galaxy S20 Ultra owners are reporting better autofocus performance post the update, though it is unclear if the issues are fully resolved or if there is still room for improvement. The update should seemingly also fix the camera app freezes that many Galaxy S20 users were complaining about. Other improvements, if any, brought about by the update are unclear right now.

As of now, the update is only available for the Exynos variant of the Galaxy S20 in selected markets, though a wider rollout should be on the cards. If you own the international variant of the Galaxy S20, you can use the Smart Switch update on your PC to try and get the update early.
