New Super Mario Bros. sells past half million mark

Nintendo announced in a press release this afternoon that the newest Mario Bros. game "New Super Mario Bros." for the DS handheld system has just sold past the 500,000 mark in the United States. This number means that a copy of New Super Mario Bros. is selling every 20 minutes since the game was released back on May 12th.

Keep in mind, these sales numbers do not include the rest of North America, Japan or any other territory. This is just the US. Most of the media on the game praise it as a perfect example of "old school" side scrolling goodness, with top reviews from IGN and Gamespy and many other outlets.

Look for a review from yours truly in an upcoming Gamers Podcast sometime within the next week or two, thanks to Nintendo of course. What do you you think about New Super Mario Bros.? Does it deserve all this attention, is it really that good, is it worthy of the name Mario? Let us know.
