Early on in July, Microsoft released firmware and driver updates for a handful of devices in the Surface Laptop, Surface Book, and Surface Pro families, all with the goal of improving performance with the Surface Dock 2. In an unusual move, the fifth-generation Surface Pro received a separate update last week, with the goal of improving startup performance.
Now, the Redmond giant is rolling out a new firmware update for the Surface Laptop 2, after it received its own set of updates related to the Surface Dock 2 last week. Like the Surface Pro 5th gen, there"s only one update in this second round, and it"s focused on improving stability while hibernating. Here"s Microsoft"s description:
Windows Update History Name | Device Manager Name | Version and Update |
---|---|---|
Surface - Firmware - 138.3261.768.0 | Surface UEFI - Firmware | 138.3261.768.0
|
It"s not exactly clear what issues might have been occurring while hibernating, but if you"ve noticed anything on your device, this might help.
The update is available to all users running Windows 10 version 1903 - the May 2019 Update - or newer, and it doesn"t appear to be a gradual rollout. You should be able to get it right now using the "Check for Updates" button in the Windows 10 Settings app, but it should install automatically sooner or later.
