In early February VAIO announced it was launching a brand new Windows 10 Mobile device. The Phone Biz handset, as it came to be known, is a stylish mid-ranger, sporting the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile OS and offering support for Continuum. However, it was revealed that the device won’t be coming to North America, which is disappointing. But it looks like Windows 10 fans are getting a second chance at a brand new device.
A new VAIO-developed smartphone has just shown up at the Bluetooth certification authority, running Windows 10 Mobile. And according to its model numbers it looks like it might be a completely new phone, not just a US version of the Phone Biz. This latest handset goes under the model name VPU051C11N, compared to the Phone Biz which is listed as VPB0511S.
Unfortunately, there’s not much more to go on here, other than the fact that the device is listed as running Windows 10 Mobile 10.0.10586, meaning the current version of Windows 10, not the upcoming Redstone update.
A while ago, a rumored 4.7-inch device, featuring a 1080p display and Snapdragon 615 was spotted on GFXBench, which might very well be this device. If that’s the case, then fans in the US, Canada and possibly other markets may get to try out a new mid-range phone soon. If it’s not, then VAIO will still get to unveil a new device in the near future, so in either case Windows fans have something to look forward to.
