At E3, Microsoft announced that they would be releasing an updated Xbox 360 and in unusual Microsoft fashion, they released the console the same day. With the device out in the wild, it was only a matter of time before someone took the new console and opened it up to see what changes Microsoft made under the hood.
The crew over at iFixit has taken the liberty of poring over all the details of the new Xbox. Fortunately, it looks like the new console is easy to repair and received an 8 out of 10 rating, with 10 being the easiest to service.
The internals of the new Xbox are highly modular, which makes replacing components quite easy. In addition, the hard drive can be replaced but does require a proprietary Xbox hard drive (same as previous versions of the console).
The new console is out on store shelves now, and while Microsoft did not cut the price with the release, we would expect that the new design was able to streamline production that may lead the way to a future price cut down the road.
